Have you ever played with Quickmask? If the answer is no you’re missing out on a great feature. Digital expert Gavin Hoey www.gavtrain.com demonstrates how filters can be applied to a quick mask to create a very satisfying border effect.

Gavin, great work again, but something is wrong here. When I click “inverse” the frame gets red not the center part. If I follow the instructions using inverse with center red, the fill doesn’t happen.
Why is the center red on yours even though you clicked “inverse”??? Shouldn’t inverse set the outer part as the highlite?
Great tutorial but i’m having 1 problem, as I select and inverse it etc it wont allow me to click filter gallery. Help please.
Very useful tutorial very detailed helped me alot, thanks alot, subbed
gotit!!!

When i get to fill on cs4 it does not look like yours/iam watching again
Another amazing Tutorial Gavin!! I agree with defineart, there should be a 6 star rating for your videos.
Some of the best photoshop tutorials on youtube by far. Very clear and easy to follow.
Hi – I have that DVD – how about more for Elements?
I can only hope.
Not that many, most are for Photoshop only. I do have a DVD that is devoted to Elements. Check out my website for details.
If I order the Youtube video from you, how many of the lessons will work on PSE 6? Have one of your DVD’s and they are so easy to watch and follow as I work. Thanks!
(P.S. …where are YOU int his video??? It’s not the same without your intro and ending…)
Quick yet smart and artistic.
There should be a 6-star rating just for you!!
Cheers, Gavin
I have PSE 6 – can I do this on my program – or is it just PS?
Thank you!
I know it’s silly, but this was one of the special effects I missed most from my old, much simpler program! I’ve found them again! Thanks tons, Gavin!!
hi gavin,i used to be able to press a button to work to the edge.now i cant go past the edge,to make it easier(i have to zoom out)
if you have any idea from the babble i am typing, please let me know.
thanks gavin.
You’re not being thick. Actually the filters will have an effect in the middle, try some and see what works. Bluring the edge increase the number of filters that will work.
Experiment is the key word here.
Ok, I`m thick but how come it only affects the edges of the mask?
Nice effect though!
